Milestone hit but… We are greedy… We want more!!!

Our youngest child Jackson got married to his beautiful bride Chelsea this weekend in a fairytale wedding in our backyard. We have prayed for the perfect spouse for all of our children and Chelsea fits the bill for Jackson. She is beautiful inside and out and we all love her. We feel so blessed that Mike was not only here to witness it, but he had the honor of being Jack’s best man. Mike set many goals in this, almost 24 year, cancer journey and seeing Jack get married was a great milestone to hit. Now, however, we want more!!! We have been super emotional lately because the baby of the family was getting married, but to be honest.. when you have a stage 4 cancer diagnosis you don’t know if it will be the last milestone you hit. You don’t want to think that way, but it’s a reality we live with every day! We both want a lifetime of milestones. We want to enjoy each other and every birthday, wedding, the birth of grand babies, etc.… Without the constant thought of “will this be the last”!?!

This is a wonderful time in our lives and we do celebrate the milestone of Jack and Chelsea finishing college, moving into their first home and getting married, as well as all the milestones of our kids and grandkids. But… We are greedy and we want more… More milestones, more birthdays, anniversaries, grandchildren, more memories, more time! I would love to just write a feel-good post about the wedding, but this blog is about our lives dealing with a stage 4 cancer diagnosis and, unfortunately, we are reminded daily of the fragility of life by new cancer diagnoses and the passing of friends with cancer.

Mike has a brain MRI on Tuesday, June 18 at Mayo and we would love prayers for no tumors/METS and a great report from the brain surgeon!

I know Mike is already setting new goals/milestones to meet and I encourage everyone to do that. Set goals, reach for them, achieve them and keep setting new ones. Replace the phrase “I have to” with “I get to” every time you catch yourself starting to complain. So many activities we complain about are things others wish they had the chance to do.

Love and blessings,

PAULA
