Still waiting for round two…

Monday October 7th marked 3 weeks since Mike’s first chemo/Keytruda treatment. He was supposed to get round two, but Mayo didn’t have any chairs available that day, so Mike was scheduled to receive his second round Thursday the 10th. We had to stay the night Wednesday in Rochester because bloodwork was scheduled for 6:40 am Thursday morning. Then a visit with an oncologist at 8:30 am. Most of Mike’s bloodwork was good, unfortunately his neutrophils (1.03) and leukocytes (3.2) were too low to receive his second infusion. Neutrophils and leukocytes are part of your white blood count and when they are low you are immune compromised and can’t fight off infection. So now the plan is to recheck Mike’s blood on Monday morning and if his levels are back up he will get his second round of Carboplatin/Pemetrexed and Keytruda that afternoon. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 The low levels explain why Mike has been so tired. He has even napped every day and falls asleep well before 8pm nightly.

Mike handled the first round of Chemo pretty well. He was tired and nauseous for the first 4 days but felt better after that. He has been getting outside for daily walks and even went into work for an hour or two a few times. We took Jack and Chelsea and a couple of our grand daughters to check out some highland calves that we were thinking of buying. We decided against getting the cows because they are bigger than we are ready for. We really want a mini highland, so are going to wait until we find one. We did, however, come home with an adorable mini Pyre-doodle we named Nala. Great Pyrenees are great work/farm dogs so she should be a great addition to our little farm❤️

As usual we have been listening to lots of Contemporary Christian music to help keep our minds right. One that I recently discovered is called “While I Wait” by Lincoln Brewster and it really resonates! A few verses…

“I live by faith and not by sight— Sometimes miracles take time—While I wait, I will worship—Lord, I’ll worship your name—While I wait, I will trust you—Lord, I’ll trust You all the same—When I fall apart, You are my strength—Help me not forget—Seeing every scar, You make me whole…..

Praying Monday’s bloodwork is improved and that the treatment is doing its job. While we wait we are trusting Him!🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼

Be blessed,

Paula
