The rollercoaster ride continues

Our rollercoaster ride in life continues. Mikes doctors in CA agreed that Gamma Knife Surgery at Mayo would be good to get rid of the brain METS while they are small. We got a call however, telling us that the nuerosurgeon was picked for jury duty on Jan. 31st (you”d think you could get out of that to perform brain surgery…Ha!) so the GSK will be early Feb. 14. and prayers would be appreciated!

We have had quite a few phone and zoom calls with Mikes doctors at Cancer Center for Healing in CA including the chemo team to come up with the best plan going forward. They all thought seeing Dr. Jason Williams would be the best option. He does inter-tumoral immunotherapy as well as ablation (freezing and or burning) and he is having great success. We sent all of Mikes scan results and interpretations to Dr. Williams and two weeks ago Mike got a call from someone saying he wasnt a good candidate. We were sad and confused but eventually decided to trust Gods plan and not try to force our own way. Dr. Ptak in CA ordered some repurposed medications that have anti-cancer properties for Mike and she also called Dr. Williams herself because everyone there thought Dr. Williams would be fascinated by Mikes case and that he would be a great candidate . Dr. Ptak called us on Wednesday and said Dr. Williams will do a consult with us after he recovers from GKS! so, sometime in late Feb. or early March we will know what the next steps are.

We have been busy traveling to all of Jacksons Loras basketball games and loving every minute of it! They are ranked #25 and their team is just super fun to watch! Travel basketball and volleyball for the grandkids will be keeping us busy as well. The only problem is that the bright lights in gyms cause issues for MIke which is either from Glaucoma (which is way worse after the Gavreto) or from previouis GKS. Sunglasses help some, so if you see him just know hes not trying to look “cool” he”s just trying to prevent a migraine.

A quote I saw recently: “I’m happy, hurting, and healing at the same time. Don’t ask me how.” This is perfect for us and so true! I/we can go from smiling to laughing to crying in a matter of minutes and thats okay because we are present and fully living!

Be blessed,

Paula
